Where I've Been

I owe an apology to all of you who attended Beyond Ballots or Bullets or expressed interest in the workshop. Simply put, I didn't follow up. Shortly after BBB I disappeared from sight and ceased all work on the Free America project. I feel that I have let down a lot of people.

The reason was this: two weeks after BBB my wife asked for a divorce. It wasn't entirely unexpected, as we had been having difficulties for years, but it made a mess of my life. This was a twenty-year marriage with four kids (three at home) and a lot of equity in the house. I naively thought that, since we were both reasonable people, we could work out a settlement in somewhere between six weeks and three months. It's now been 8-1/2 months (as of 9 December), and we still aren't done.

Two things have caused me to return to this project now, even though this divorce mess is still hanging over my head. One is the Ron Paul phenomenon. Although I hold no hope that Ron Paul will save the country, his rapidly growing and enthusiastic base of support shows that there are a large number of people in this country who care about freedom and want to do something to make this a free land.

The other thing was the encouragement of a dear friend. N, you know who you are. Thank you very much.
